Don Mattingly's wife arrested

The estranged wife of Los Angeles Dodgers coach Don Mattingly has been charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Police arrested 45-year-old Kim Mattingly after being called to the coach's Indiana home to investigate complaints that she refused to leave the property on Saturday, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The author of the affidavit, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Howard, alleged she smelled of alcohol and screamed at officers.

On Monday, the court granted a restraining order against the woman that Don Mattingly had asked for, citing three incidents in which she had appeared at his home.

On one occasion two weeks ago, it's alleged in the petition, she tried to kick down his door.

The couple began divorce proceedings in November on the grounds of irreconcilable differences. An agreement hasn't been finalized.

According to the affidavit, Kim Mattingly told police her husband had taken her phone and she wanted it back, though the former New York Yankees first baseman insisted he did not have her phone.

She posted $50 US bail and was released from the Vanderburgh County Jail not long after her arrest. She appeared in court on Monday and is scheduled to return on March 3.

Mattingly, who played 14 seasons and won American League MVP honours from 1982-95, spent four seasons as a coach with New York under Joe Torre.

Mattingly is now a coach in Los Angeles under Torre, who has taken over the manager's job in L.A.
