Fan poll picks Yankees to win World Series

An Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll suggests most fans think the New York Yankees will win the World Series over the Philadelphia Phillies, and Alex Rodriguez will be named the most valuable player.

Baseball fans say it's the Yankees' year.

An Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll released Tuesday suggests that most fans think New York will beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series and Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez will be the Series MVP.

Asked to pick the winner of the Series, 64 per cent of fans chose New York, with 36 per cent predicting the Phillies would win their second title in a row.

The majority of fans also said they would prefer either having a designated hitter in both the American League and National League parks or no DH at all, as opposed to the current system, under which there is a DH in AL stadiums but not in NL parks.

How much would fans pay to see a World Series game? Fifty-eight per cent say they wouldn't go above $100 US.

They also may be content to learn who wins the next morning.

Only 53 per cent of fans polled said they would stay up late to watch World Series games.

The Series begins Wednesday night in New York.
