Jays reject Phillies' counter-offer for Halladay

The Toronto Blue Jays have rejected the latest Philadelphia deal for their ace Roy Halladay, according to ESPN.com on Sunday.

The Toronto Blue Jays have rejected the latest Philadelphia deal for their ace Roy Halladay, according to ESPN.com.

After the Phillies rejected a deal on Saturday that would have sent pitchers J.A. Happ and Kyle Drabek plus outfield prospect Dominic Brown to Toronto for Halladay, Philadelphia countered with a deal of its own, the website said.

In it, the Phillies offered Happ and three prospects — outfielder Michael Taylor, pitcher Carlos Carrasco and shortstop Jason Donald, who all play triple-A ball in Lehigh Valley, Pa. The Jays quickly rejected the deal.

Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi is talking to a number of other teams about Halladay, but one of the most aggressive, the Angels, is also apparently chafing at the current asking price.

Ricciardi has said he'd like to get a deal done by Tuesday, which would give the GM a three-day window to trade other players before the non-waiver trade deadline on Friday.

Philadelphia is reportedly still the front-runner to land Halladay if a trade takes place with the Blue Jays.
