Jays' Wells leaves game with injury

A defensive battle between the Toronto Blue Jays and the visiting Tampa Bay Rays claimed a victim on Sunday when Vernon Wells left the game injured in the sixth inning.

The Blue Jays' centre fielder dislocated the big toe on his right foot after running into the wall to make a spectacular third-out grab on a Ben Zobrist fly ball.

The catch kept pitcher Brandon Morrow's no-hit innings bid to six, but Wells crashed into the wall and then hobbled of the field.

Wells will undergo further X-rays on his toe Monday and will miss at least a few days of action.

Travis Snider was summoned to pinch hit in the bottom of the inning and moved to left field, while Dewayne Wise moved over into centre.

Morrow finished one out short of the bid for the no-hitter in the 1-0 Toronto win.
