The 34-year-old from Japan endeared himself to Toronto fans with his colourful personality and enthusiastic playing style, which helped many overlook his limited ability.
Kawasaki is a career .234 hitter with a .314 on-base percentage and one home run over parts of four major-league seasons, including the last three with the Blue Jays.
He was left off Toronto's post-season roster as the Jays made their run to the American League Championships Series in 2015.
