Wayne Gretzky is cheering for the Blue Jays
Hockey legend says MLB team bringing Canadian sports fans together
It probably doesn't come as much of a surprise that Wayne Gretzky would offer his support to the Toronto Blue Jays.
However, The Great One's friendship with a former Kansas City Royals star may have to be set aside on Friday night when the Blue Jays face elimination against the Royals in Game 6 of the ALCS.
Click on the video player above to hear Gretzky's thoughts on the team that has "taken over Canada" in October.
Aside from the team being Canadian, successful, and fun to watch, there just might be another reason for Gretzky's allegiance to the Blue Jays.
As pointed out by Nitzy's Hockey Den on Blogspot.ca, Gretzky was offered a tryout by Toronto in 1980. Gretzky had shown his potential as a baseball player during his time with Brantford of the Intercounty Baseball League. He was a good runner and hitter and also displayed an impressive curve ball.
Baseball talent also trickled down to Gretzky's son Trevor, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2011.
