Courtney Vandersloot's clutch play leads Sky past Lynx

Taurasi scores 24 points to lift Mercury over Storm; Thomas helps Sun rout Sparks

Courtney Vandersloot scored five of her 16 points in the final 38 seconds and the visiting Chicago Sky held off the Minnesota Lynx 82-78 on Saturday night.

Vandersloot hit a three-pointer to give Chicago (2-1) an 80-76 lead with 38 seconds left and added two free throws 15 seconds later. Bridget Carleton, of Chatham, Ont., recorded four points, three assists and five rebounds for Minnesota.

Emma Meesseman finished with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven steals for the Sky. Azura Stevens added 14 points. Candace Parker had 11 points.

Reserve Nikolina Milic topped the Lynx (0-4) with 18 points. Sylvia Fowles had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Moriah Jefferson finished with 16 points and five assists.

Thomas, Jones help Sun rout Sparks

Alyssa Thomas had 23 points, 12 rebounds and five assists and the Connecticut Sun routed the Los Angeles Sparks 77-60 on Saturday night.

Jonquel Jones added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Sun (1-1) in their home opener. Dijonai Carrington had 13 points and three steals, and Brionna Jones finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Nneka Ogwumike and Jordin Canada each scored 12 points for Los Angeles (2-2).

The Sun led 26-14 after the first quarter and 49-25 at the half.

Taurasi scores 24 points to lift Mercury over Storm

Diana Taurasi made six three-pointers and scored 24 points and the visiting Phoenix Mercury beat the Seattle Storm 69-64 on Saturday to sweep the home-and-home series.

The Mercury (2-1) beat Seattle (1-3) 97-77 on Wednesday night in Phoenix.

Skylar Diggins-Smith added 14 points and five assists for Phoenix. Brianna Turner had 14 rebounds, and Tina Charles grabbed 10.

Diamond DeShields had 11 points and four assists off the bench.

Jewell Loyd hit five three-pointers and scored 26 points for Seattle. Sue Bird scored two points on 1-of-11 shooting.

She missed all eight of her three-point tries. Stephanie Talbot had 14 rebounds and eight points on 3-of-11 shooting. Ezi Magbegor had 10 rebounds and blocked seven shots.
