Canada is out of the Little League World Series. The Whalley All-Stars from Surrey, B.C., lost 11-0 to Japan in the international bracket semifinal in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
"We knew what we were up against, but we were going to go down fighting," said Canadian coach John Atkinson. "Hopefully people back home remember that we got this far. We've got nothing to be ashamed about."
The game was stopped by the "10-run mercy rule" in the fifth inning.
"This is the hitting I was hoping for through the whole series," Chiba City manager Hirofumi Oda said through an interpreter.
Japan plays the winner of Thursday's semifinal between Guam and Curaçao.
