Argos re-sign import DB Shell
Lin-J Shell is staying put.
The veteran import defensive back signed a contract extension through the 2013 season with the Toronto Argonauts on Tuesday, hours before he was scheduled to become a free agent.
"The Double Blue is my home," Shell said in a statement. "This team gave me the opportunity to continue to live off my passion which is playing football.
"They have now rewarded me for my hard work over the last couple years and have given me the chance to come back and continue to play."
Shell has spent the last three seasons with Toronto and was an East Division all-star in 2010. He finished tied for the league lead in interceptions (four for 49 yards) and registered 63 tackles. Shell was named the team's outstanding rookie in 2009.
"Lin-J was the team's rookie of the year in 2009 and played very well last season on a stellar defence," Argos head coach/general manager Jim Barker said. "We're excited to be able to maintain continuity for our fans and keep our good players in place."
