Lions extend DL Johnson for 2 years
Veteran defensive lineman Brent Johnson is staying with the only CFL team he has ever played for.
The B.C. Lions announced Tuesday that the five-time divisional all-star has signed a contract extension with the club through the 2012 season.
"Brent demonstrated last season that he has plenty of good football left," Lions general manager and head coach Wally Buono said in a release. "He continues to be a leader both on the field and in our dressing room and I am pleased to have him back."
Johnson appeared in all 18 regular-season games last year to push his consecutive games-played streak to 168 games. He also set a new all-time team mark with his 83rd career sack.
Johnson recorded seven sacks last year and had 29 defensive tackles, three forced fumbles, two pass knockdowns and one tackle for a loss.
"I felt re-energized last season and I can't help but feel this Lions club, with its blend of young talent and experience, has a legitimate shot at winning a title in 2011," said Johnson.
Brent, 34, has not missed a game in his CFL career. The Kingston, Ont., native won Grey Cups with the Lions in 2004 and 2006.
