Roughriders add Walker, retain Etcheverry
The Saskatchewan Roughriders named Mike Walker defensive line coach and announced that Gary Etcheverry will return as a defensive assistant in finalizing their coaching staff Friday.
The CFL club also signed offensive lineman Alexandre Gauthier.
Walker joins the Roughriders after spending last season in the same role with the Edmonton Eskimos. He was a defensive consultant with the Toronto Argonauts in 2007 and 2008 and spent 11 seasons coaching the defensive line at Washington State prior to that.
Walker was a three-time CFL all-star during his playing career with Hamilton and Edmonton.
Etcheverry returns for a fourth season, continuing on in a post he first assumed in 2008.
Gauthier, a veteran of nine CFL seasons, joins Saskatchewan after spending the past two years with Hamilton.
He chosen first overall in the 2002 CFL Canadian Draft by the Ottawa Renegades. He's also played for Calgary and Winnipeg.
