Canadian defensive lineman Brent Urban agrees to terms with Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are poised to add a Canadian to their roster after saying goodbye to a longtime member of the team from Canada.

Defensive end Brent Urban of Mississauga, Ont., tweeted Thursday he will be signing with the Cowboys.

The 29-year-old Urban made his NFL debut in 2015 with Baltimore. He was with the Ravens through 2018 before spending the last two seasons with Tennessee and Chicago.

Also Thursday, the Cowboys tweeted their thanks to long-snapper L.P. Ladouceur, whose 16-year run with Dallas is over after the team signed Jake McQuaide earlier this week.

Ladouceur, a native of Montreal, played a Canadian NFL record 253 games with the Cowboys, two games shy of Jason Witten's franchise record.

The Cowboys finished last year with an NFL-high four Canadians on their roster, but just one of them is signed for 2021 — defensive tackle Neville Gallimore of Ottawa, the team's third-round pick in the 2020 draft.

Defensive linemen Eli Ankou of Ottawa and Tyrone Crawford of Windsor, Ont., both are unrestricted free agents.

Bills sign Trubisky

After four sometimes rocky seasons in Chicago, Mitchell Trubisky is getting an opportunity to re-establish himself as Josh Allen's backup in Buffalo.

The Bills used what little space they had left under the salary cap to upgrade their quarterback depth by agreeing to sign Trubisky to a one-year contract on Thursday.

The addition provides the championship-minded Bills valuable insurance in the event Allen gets injured in their quest to build on reaching the AFC championship game for the first time in 27 years. Trubisky gets the luxury of developing in Buffalo's pass-first offence, and a fresh start after the Bears cooled on the North Carolina product they selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 draft.

Raiders bolster running game with Drake

The Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $14.5 million US with free agent running back Kenyan Drake to complement starter Josh Jacobs.

A person familiar with the deal says Drake will be guaranteed $11 million under the deal agreed to on Thursday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn't been announced.

A second person familiar with a separate deal said tight end Derek Carrier has agreed to return to the Raiders on a one-year deal. The person also spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn't been announced.

The Raiders opted to make a significant investment in Drake two years after drafting Jacobs in the first round in hopes of forming a strong duo at the position.

49ers fortify O-line with Mack

Six-time Pro Bowl centre Alex Mack is reuniting with coach Kyle Shanahan after signing a contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers announced the three-year deal with Mack on Thursday, one day after agreeing to give left tackle Trent Williams a $138.1 million, six-year deal to remain in San Francisco.

Mack said the Niners were his top priority in free agency because he wanted to play for a competitive team with an offence that fit his skills.

"I know it's a system I can be really good in," he said. "It's an offence, I know I could excel at. So it was to me a very good fit between a good team and a good spot with a good coaching staff and some place that I could be a good player."

Dolphins add Fuller, Skura

Receiver Will Fuller agreed to terms Thursday on a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins, who were eager to acquire a deep threat to stretch the field for Tua Tagovailoa.

Centre Matt Skura, a starter with Baltimore for the past four seasons, also agreed to a one-year deal with Miami.

Fuller is coming off his best season of his five-year career, all in Houston, even though he was suspended for the final five games for using performance-enhancers. He made 53 catches for 879 yards and eight scores, all career highs, and had five 100-yard games.
