Saskatchewan Roughrider offensive lineman Val St. Germain announced his retirement on Thursday.

Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman Val St. Germain announced his retirement on Thursday.

St. Germain, 36, decided to call it quits after 14 seasons in the CFL. Last season, he won his only Grey Cup championship.

"I can think of no better way than to end my career as a member of the 2007 Grey Cup winning Saskatchewan Roughriders," said Germain, a native of Ottawa.

"That being said, it is with mixed emotions that I am officially announcing my retirement today. The past 14 years have truly been good times and I am thankful for the opportunity to have played the game I love for so long."

A product of McGill University, St. Germain was selected by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with the No. 1 pick in the 1994 CFL college draft.

In total, St. Germain played 204 CFL regular-season games with Hamilton (1994-98), the Edmonton Eskimos (1999-2001), Ottawa Renegades (2002-05), Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2006-07), and Saskatchewan (2007).

St. Germain was a two-time East Division all-star (1998 and 2003) and a West Division all-star (1999).
