Montreal Force blank Toronto Six in all-Canadian PHF battle
Sherbrooke, Que., native Tricia Deguire posts 39-save shutout
Tricia Deguire earned the shutout as the visiting Montreal Force blanked the Toronto Six 3-0 in an all-Canadian Premier Hockey Federation showdown on Saturday.
Deguire, a 26-year-old netminder from Sherbrooke, Que., turned away 39 Toronto shots, including 22 in the second period.
Samantha Isbell had a goal and an assist for the Force who peppered Toronto goaltender Elaine Chuli with 32 shots. Chuli was making her 12th start of the season.
Montreal (7-9-1) went one-for-four with the man advantage, while Toronto (12-3-2) failed to score on their lone power play.
"They've been doing the things we've been asking them to do in practice, and it carried over into the first periods. We just couldn't score," said Toronto Six head coach Geraldione Heaney.
"If we would have gotten a goal early in the first period, I think the game would have changed, the team would have had more confidence, and maybe we would have popped in a couple more. That's the way the game goes."
The two teams meet again Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
