World Cup of Hockey: Corey Perry to replace injured Jeff Carter

Los Angeles Kings forward Jeff Carter is out of the World Cup of Hockey with a lower-body injury.

He will be replaced on the Team Canada roster by Anaheim's Corey Perry.

Perry led Canada to gold at the world hockey championship in Russia earlier this year.

The medal made Perry one of eight active players to win Olympic gold, a world title and a Stanley Cup.

"I know Jeff wanted to play and represent Canada, and his decision to step aside as they continue to monitor his injury speaks to his character and willingness to put Team Canada's success above all else," said Canada general manager Doug Armstrong. "We look forward to seeing him back on the ice when the NHL season resumes."

Canada, the defending World Cup champion, opens training camp Monday in Ottawa.

Trocheck joins Team North America

Team North America's Sean Monahan is out of the World Cup with a back injury and has been replaced by forward Vincent Trocheck.

The NHL announced the move Friday afternoon for the 23-and-under North American team that is made up of American and Canadian players. The Calgary Flames announced that Monahan strained his back in preseason training.

Flames general manager Brad Treliving said in a statement that the team does not anticipate Monahan's injury being long term and expects him to be ready for the start of training camp.

Trocheck, 23, has 37 goals and 46 assists in 146 games with the Florida Panthers.

Monahan, 21, recently signed a $44.63 million, seven-year deal with the Flames. He has 80 goals and 79 assists in 237 games.

Krejci, Gudas and Hertl out, Cervenka in

The Czech Republic's David Krejci, Tomas Hertl and Radko Gudas are all out of the World Cup of Hockey due to injuries, the Czech Ice Hockey Association said on Saturday.

Krejci, the Boston Bruins center, needs more time to recover from hip surgery and will be replaced by Roman Cervenka of Swiss club HC Fribourg-Gotteron for the tournament, which starts on Sept. 17 in Toronto.

"David Krejci was supposed to be one of our key players, but his (surgery) makes it impossible for him to participate," Czech Republic coach Josef Jandac said in a statement on Saturday. "We have to respect that."

Cervenka played at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics for the Czechs, and helped the team win gold at the 2010 world championship.

The Czech association said Gudas, a Philadelphia Flyers defenceman, injured his wrist in training and won't be able to recover in time, while forward Hertl of the San Jose Sharks was still not fit enough to play after he injured his right knee in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup final against Pittsburgh.

It was not clear yet who will replace Gudas and Hertl on the Czech team.
