George McPhee expected to be named GM of Las Vegas NHL franchise
Won 7 division titles and a Presidents' Trophy with Washington
The National Hockey League's new Las Vegas franchise will announce the organization's first general manager on Wednesday, with George McPhee expected to get the job.
McPhee, 58, spent 17 seasons as GM of the Washington Capitals but did not have his contract renewed following the 2013-14 season. He spent this past season as an advisor to New York Islanders GM Garth Snow.
TSN's Bob McKenzie tweeted Tuesday that McPhee was the likely candidate.

Las Vegas, under majority owner Bill Foley, became the NHL's 31st franchise last month. The team will begin play in the 2017-18 season.
