Las Vegas Desert Knights? NHL team files for trademarks
Potential team names tie in to ownership group
Las Vegas' NHL team is one step closer to ending its identity crisis.
The league's newest expansion club filed trademarks for several team names, including the Las Vegas Desert Knights, according to SportsLogos.net.
Other names include the Las Vegas Golden Knights, Las Vegas Silver Knights and variants of the aforementioned names without "Las" in them.
The "Desert Knights" appear to be a front runner. Moniker Privacy Services, the company that bought the internet domain name to NHL.com, recently acquired several domain names that feature the name, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Foley's preference for "Knights" in the team name is evident due to his personal connection to it. Foley graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where the team name is the Black Knights; he later named his company Black Knight Financial Services and his consortium Black Knight Sports and Entertainment owns the team.
The team is scheduled to begin play in the 2017-18 NHL season at T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip.
