Team Europe forward Marian Gaborik will miss the World Cup of Hockey final with a foot injury that will also see him miss the first month of the National Hockey League season.

Team Europe general manager Miroslav Satan says Gaborik was injured during Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over Sweden in the tournament semifinals. He is expected to be out for eight weeks.

The Europeans will miss the high-scoring Slovakian winger on Tuesday night in Game 1 of a best-of-three series against Canada.

Gaborik scored his second goal in four World Cup games against the Swedes, helping Team Europe advance to the finals. He had 12 goals and 10 assists last season for the Kings, playing just 54 games in the regular season because of a knee injury.

"Due to a lower-body injury suffered on Sunday, forward Marian Gaborik has left Team Europe and he will not return," Satan said. "Marian was a very important part of Team Europe throughout the entire World Cup of Hockey and though he is leaving our group today, he remains a part of our team. We know he will be supporting us in the final against Team Canada and we wish him all the best in his recovery."
