Oshawa hammers Kingston 10-1: CHL playoffs roundup

Alain Berger and Lucas Lessio both scored twice as Oshawa won by a wide margin for the second straight night. The Generals downed Kingston 7-3 on Thursday.

The Generals lead the series 2-0 and will host Game 3 on Sunday.

Ryan Spooner gave the Frontenacs a 1-0 lead 7:27 into the game.

Thomas scored his first of the night just 51 seconds later and Oshawa's deluge didn't let up for the rest of the game.

Kingston was clearly frustrated with the lopsided game, taking 42 minutes in penalties. The Generals were significantly more disciplined, only spending 15 minutes in the penalty box.

Spooner scored on the Frontenacs' only power play, while Oshawa went 3-for-13 with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Saginaw 3, Guelph 2; Owen Sound 3, London 2 (OT) and Plymouth 6, Kitchener 5.

QMJHL

Zack Phillips scored four goals, including three on the power play in the second period, as the Saint John Sea Dogs rocked the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 10-0 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League post-season action Friday.

Phillips' hat trick was part of a seven-goal period as the Sea Dogs dominated the first game of their playoff series with the Screaming Eagles.

Jacob DeSerres stopped 19 shots for the shutout, as Saint John continues to dominate the QMJHL.

QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau presented the Sea Dogs with the Jean Rougeau Trophy, the league's regular season championship, in a pre-game ceremony.

Saint John clinched the Rogeau title for the second straight year, this time tying the QMJHL record with 58 wins.

The Sea Dogs also received its second straight Luc Robitaille Trophy for most goals scored, and first ever Robert LeBel Trophy for best goals-against average.

It's the first time in the 10-year history of the Luc Robitaille Trophy that a team has won both the Robitaille and LeBel.

Game 2 is in Saint John on Saturday night.

WHL

The Brandon Wheat Kings stayed hot with a 7-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven opening round Western Hockey League  playoff series Friday.

Ryan Pulock scored twice for the Wheat Kings, who had an 18-6-1 record to close out the regular season. David Toews, Hampus Gustafsson, Brenden Walker, Shayne Wiebe and Paul Ciarelli added singles.

Linden Vey and Hunter Shinkaruk scored for the Tigers.

Corbin Boes turned away 33 shots earning the win in goal for Brandon. Tyler Bunz turned away 22 of 27 shots suffering the loss in goal for the Tigers. Deven Dubyk stopped eight of 10 shots in a relief appearance.

The two teams go at it again on Saturday in Medicine Hat.
