Montreal's Kim Klavel advanced to the quarter-finals of the women's world boxing championships on Tuesday in China.
Klavel defeated Derya Aktop of Ankara 17-10 in the four-round bout in the 48-kilogram weight class. Klavel began to pull away on the judges' scorecards in the third round.
She will face an opponent from the Philippines on Wednesday.
Women's boxing is making its debut at the London Olympics, with the worlds in China serving as a qualification event.
The world championships are being held in 10 weight classes, but only three will be featured at the Olympics: 51-kilogram flyweight; 60-kilogram lightweight; and 75-kilogram middleweight.
