Canada's Arthur Biyarslanov scored a 3-0 victory over Obada Alkasbeh of Jordan in his opening fight in the men's 64-kilogram light welterweight division of the Olympic boxing tournament in Rio on Thursday.

The Russian-born Biyarslanov took the first round 29-28, followed by 30-27 and 29-28 in Rounds 2 and 3 in Brazil.

Last summer, Biyarslanov won Canada's first Pan Am gold in boxing since Chris Clarke in 1975, fighting in the junior welterweight category.

Thirteen years ago, he left Chechnya with his mother and settled in Toronto and since has become affectionately known as "The Chechen Wolf."
