Mandy Bujold doesn't fit the boxing stereotype skin deep, and she'll be the first one to tell you.

The two-time Pan Am Games champion saves her grit for the ring. The 29-year-old has fought through the disappointment of missing London 2012 to become a medal shot in Rio.

Famous moment

Beating U.S. boxer Marlen Esparza in the 2015 Pan Am Games gold medal final.

Esparza was the reigning world champion at the time and won bronze at the London Olympics.

She said it...

  • "Qualifying for the Olympics is probably harder than winning a medal at the Olympics."

What they're saying about her...

  • "She's got a lot of tough competition but, you know, I had a lot of tough competition when I went to the Olympics. It's all in the mindset. She's definitely got the great mindset for going into the ring. And into Rio." - Lennox Lewis

Strengths

She knows the majority of women in her flyweight competition and, for a fighter, knowledge can make the difference.

Weaknesses

She enters her first Olympic Games and, as always, the distractions are abundant on the biggest stage. Handling these will be very important, something Bujold has frequently noted.
