Canada's Lindsay Jennerich and Patricia Obee won the gold medal in the lightweight women's double sculls event Sunday at the World Rowing Cup II in Switzerland on Sunday.

The Victoria duo won in seven minutes, 4.10 seconds to claim Canada's only medal of the three-day competition.

Jennerich and Obee sat fifth after 1,500 metres, but surged to victory over the final 500 metres. South Africa's boat was second in 7:11.47 and New Zealand's pair was third in 7:11.6.

"We hung in there enough that when we really started to turn that dial up, it was there," Jennerich said. "It's all about timing, it's about choosing that moment at the right time.

"In this field, it's so tight and these girls are so good. We also need to believe that we are. We haven't been one of them but we are now. I'm really proud of Patricia for getting to enjoy her first Lucerne gold medal and our first gold medal together."

The World Cup II is final international competition for Canadian rowers prior to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
