Jen Kish calls out Hope Solo for 'coward' remark
American goaltender being called "sore loser"
By Ameeta Vohra, CBC Sports
Hope Solo has touched a nerve with Jen Kish.
Kish, a member of Canada's bronze-medal winning rugby sevens squad, was annoyed by Solo's post-game comments after Sweden stunned the U.S. in the women's soccer quarter-finals.
Solo said the Swedes did not deserve the win and called them "cowards" for their defensive strategy used against the Americans. Upon seeing her comments, Kish shot back at the American goalie.
Ugh. Why say this stuff <a href="https://twitter.com/hopesolo">@hopesolo</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/BeABetterRoleModel?src=hash">#BeABetterRoleModel</a> <a href="https://t.co/AXLL8032xH">pic.twitter.com/AXLL8032xH</a>

After her reaction, Kish received support from many, including three-time Olympic gold medallist Marnie McBean and Canadian professional basketball player Lizanne Murphy:
<a href="https://twitter.com/jen_kish">@jen_kish</a> <shrug> Stupid is as Stupid does.

These Olympics are all about girl power, women smashing records and killing it! We have to keep building each other up... Later Hope Solo ✌

Not only did Canadians respond to Kish's comments, but also from our neighbours south of the border.
Here's full Hope Solo quote. She should apologize for calling them cowards. Won fair & square with a great game plan <a href="https://t.co/velJ8qKjkZ">https://t.co/velJ8qKjkZ</a>

<a href="https://twitter.com/jen_kish">@jen_kish</a> I'm mortified by her comments. It's unbecoming of American sportsmanship

<a href="https://twitter.com/jen_kish">@jen_kish</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hopesolo">@hopesolo</a> SWE had a strategy & it worked. These statements are not only unsporting but they damage your team & the sport as well

As for the individuals most affected by Solo's comments, Sweden is not letting it affect them. Head coach Pia Sundhage fired back at Solo, a former player that she coached as team manager of the U.S. national team.
