Penny Oleksiak has joined a special club. Not only is the 16-year-old swimming phenom on the list of people that Canadians absolutely adore, but the Olympian is also now tied for having the most medals by a Canadian swimmer in an Olympic games.

'The Penny' will have a shot at making history if she can capture a fourth medal in Thursday night's 100-metre freestyle event.

And if Wednesday night's social media reaction was any indication, you can expect an entire nation to be behind her again on Thursday.

Oleksiak has noticed Canadians noticing her and the swimmer has voiced her appreciation of that support:

She'll have to get used to the attention, especially if she makes history tonight. Are you excited for Oleksiak's historic race? Tweet us @CBCOlympics!
