Canadian wrestler Dori Yeats lost to Sweden's Jenny Fransson in the bronze-medal bout on Wednesday.

The Montreal-based grappler appeared tentative at the beginning of the match, with Jansson receiving a point on an early violation. Time ultimately ran out on the Canadian debutante, who lost 2-1 to Jansson.

"I think I almost had her, like literally two more seconds, but I should have done it earlier," Yeats said after the bout.

Yeats advanced to one of two bronze medal bouts in the 69-kilogram division after winning a repechage bout earlier in the day. Under Olympic rules, fighters who lose to the eventual finalists along the way get another shot to come back and compete.

Yeats lost in the quarter-finals Wednesday to Japan's Sarah Dosho. Dosho, who went on to win gold over Russia's Natalia Vorobbeva, helped keep Yeats in the tournament by winning out.

Yeats then won her repechage bout against Turkey's Buse Tosun, who had also lost earlier to Dosho.

"I'm just starting," Yeats said. "I'm happy with how I did today, I knew I could medal but I was an underdog coming in here and I think I showed my weight class that I'm tougher than they might think."

Elsewhere in women's wrestling action in Rio, Japan's Kaori Icho defeated Russia's Valeria Koblova 3-2 in women's 58kg freestyle, becoming the first women to win four consecutive individual gold medals in Olympic history.

Canadian Jasmine Mian lost in the Round of 16 of the 48kg division, and Canadian Michell Fazzari lost in the same round in the 58kg division.
