Canadian wrestler given 4-year ban for doping violation

A Canadian wrestler who won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games has been given a four-year ban after testing positive for meldonium.

Tamerlan Tagziev, 34, was found to have traces of the drug, also known as mildronate, during an in-competition test in May.

Tagziev, who emigrated from Russia in 2009 and lives in Toronto, has competed for Canada since 2012 and also won a silver medal at the Pan American Championships in 2013 and a bronze at the Pan Am Games in 2015. He did not compete for Canada at the recent Olympic Games in Rio.
