Canada's hopes of earning an Olympic baseball berth at the Premier 12 tournament ended after it was eliminated from the tournament with a 3-1 loss to Australia on Friday in Seoul.
The defeat left Canada with a 1-2 record in its group. The top two teams advance. South Korea (3-0) won the group. Australia and Cuba also went 1-2, but the Aussies got second place by way of a tiebreaker.
The 12-team, $5.2-million US tournament runs Nov. 2-17, also serves as a 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifier. One spot goes to the highest-placed finisher from the Americas and one will be awarded to the highest finisher in the Super Round/Finals from the Asia/Oceania region.
