100 days until the Paralympic Games: Canadian team starting to take shape

Test events are wrapping up and qualifiers are being announced as Canada's athletes and organizers mark the 100-day countdown until the start of the 2016 Rio Paralympics.

Team Canada is projecting to place top-16 in overall medal count

The engines of Canada's Paralympic teams are starting to rev as they enter the final stretch towards Rio 2016.

It is officially 100 days until Sept. 7, the first day of Paralympic competition when 4,000 athletes from over 150 countries will enter the venues in Brazil, looking to make good on their chance at a medal.

One sure sign of the imminent Games is the coming together of Canada's Paralympic team. There are individual athletes who have qualified, like Canada's Paralympic swim team, but appeal processes are for the most part done and official announcements will now come fast and furious.

The men's and women's wheelchair basketball teams will be announced today, followed by the official rugby team reveal on June 6. The Canadian Paralympic Committee expects half the national team to be announced by mid-July, but it's entirety most likely won't be set in stone until the end of the Olympics.

Team Canada is projecting to place top-16 in overall medal count. At the last Summer Games in London 2012, Canada finished 13th in the overall medal count with 31 medals: seven gold, 15 silver and nine bronze.
