Canada's Simoneau wins solo technical gold on home soil in World Cup artistic swimming

Jacqueline Simoneau, who calls the Montreal suburb of Chambly home, won the women's solo technical gold medal at the World Aquatics artistic swimming World Cup in Markham, Ont., on Friday.

The 27-year-old Simoneau finished with 246.7950 points at the Pan Am Pool, finishing ahead of China's Huiyan Xu (244.2050) and Viktoria Reichova (203.2616) of Slovakia.

Jacqueline Simoneau claimed a World Cup solo technical gold medal with a score of 256.7050 Friday at the Pan Am Pool in Markham, Ontario.

Canadian athletes secured the second medal of the day with a open team technical silver, finishing with a score of 269.6484 points.

The Chinese squad took gold, tallying 7.1383 more points than the Canadian team of Sydney Carroll, Scarlett Finn, Audrey Lamothe, Jonnie Newman, Kenzie Priddell, Claire Scheffel, Jacqueline Simoneau and Florence Tremblay.

The U.S. took bronze.

The World Cup returns on Saturday with the women duet technical, women solo free, men solo free and open team free events before the final day of competition on Sunday.

All events will be streamed live on CBCSports.ca, and on the free CBC Sports and CBC Gem apps.
