Slovakia's Kuzmina closes in on biathlon World Cup overall title

Anastasia Kuzmina of Slovakia closed in on the biathlon World Cup overall and pursuit trophies Sunday after finishing second behind Darya Domracheva in a 10-kilometre pursuit.

Anastasia Kuzmina of Slovakia closed in on the biathlon World Cup overall and pursuit trophies Sunday after finishing second behind Darya Domracheva in a 10-kilometre pursuit.

Belarusian Domracheva overtook Kuzmina on the last lap to win by 9.2 seconds from the Slovakian. Kuzmina's fast ski speed helped her finish second Sunday despite missing four shots on the shooting range, more than anyone else in the top 20.

Susan Dunklee of the United States was a further 20.3 seconds behind Kuzmina for third place.

Julia Ransom of Kelowna, B.C. was 51st followed by her teammate Rosanna Crawford of Canmore, Alta. Emma Lunder of Vernon, B.C. did not finish.

Ahead of the final round in Russia next week, Kuzmina leads the overall standings by 41 points from Finland's Kaisa Makarainen, who trailed in 22nd Sunday after missing twice on the final shooting stage.

Kuzmina also heads the pursuit standings by 24 points from Italian Dorothea Wierer.

Norway won a men's relay with ease Sunday, crossing the line more than 50 seconds ahead of Austria, with third place for Russia.

Canada's team of Christian Gow, Scott Gow, Brendan Green, and Macx Davies finished 16th.

The Norwegians took the men's relay World Cup trophy, having won three of the four races this season.
