Canada has claimed three medals in swimming at the games in Buenos Aires. Broad won the silver medal in the women's 200 backstroke and Finlay Knox won bronze in the men's 200 individual medley earlier this week.
Spence cracks top 10
Emma Spence of Cambridge, Ont., placed 10th overall Friday in the women's all-around artistic gymnastics final.
She scored a combined 49.132 points across vault (13.900), uneven bars (12.666), beam (10.900) and floor routine (11.666). The top-rated 15-year-old in Canada had previously set a new Canadian record with 51.015 points in the all-around qualification round.
"It wasn't my best day," Spence told Gymnastics Canada, "but I'm proud to be in the top 10 of such an amazing field of gymnasts. I'm looking forward to the energy of the crowd for the apparatus finals and being able to perform my routines one last time."
Spence will compete in Saturday's vault final before finishing with beam and floor finals on Monday in Buenos Aires.
"We'll analyze and learn from today," Spence's coach Denis Vachon said Friday. "Although it's not the result Emma would have wanted, setting a new Canadian record earlier this week is something to be incredibly proud of."
Spence's breakout 2018 season also includes four gold medals at the Elite Canada competition in Quebec City in February. Spence also won team silver at the Pacific Rim and junior Pan Am championships after capturing three medals at last year's Canadian championships.
