Youth Olympics: Canadians share figure skating mixed team medal
Canada's Nullmeyer, Alkier finish 4th in alpine skiing parallel mixed team event
On the penultimate day of the Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, Canadians formed part of a figure skating mixed team that claimed a bronze medal.
Ice dancers Marjorie Lajoie of Boucherville, Que. and Zachary Lagha of St-Hubert, Que., who skate at the St-Lambert Figure Skating Club, joined forces with Denniss Vasiljevs of Latvia, Fruzsina Medgyesi of Hungary and pairs skaters Gao Yumeng and Li Bowen of China to form Team Discovery and place third in the mixed NOC event.
Team Desire, made up of skaters from Russia, China and the United States won gold, while Team Future, with skaters from Ukraine, Latvia, the Czech Republic and France claimed silver.
Points were combined from each team's results in men's, ladies, pairs and ice dance competitions.
The bronze medal was Canada's sixth medal in Lillehammer.
Skiers finish fourth
Earlier, Toronto skiers Ali Nullmeyer and Justin Alkier advanced nicely through the first two rounds to reach the semifinals. There they were beaten by a team from Russia.
That sent the Canadians to the small final for a chance at a bronze medal but they were unable to top Finland's Riikka Honkanen and Samp Kankkunen.

—@youtholympicsNullmeyer, 17, won a silver medal for Canada on Thursday in the women's slalom.
Germany, with Lucia Rispler and Jonas Stockinger, claimed gold in the event over the Russian duo of Anastasia Silanteva and Aleksey Konkov.
Competition at the Youth Olympics winds up Sunday with three events: biathlon relays, mixed doubles in curling and the men's hockey game where Canada plays the United States for gold.

Mixed Doubles - Quarter-finals
- Tyler Tardi (Surrey, B.C) / Honoka Sasaki, Japan won 7-5 over Maia Ramsfjell, Norway / Kim, Hogen, Korea
- Sterling Middleton (Fort St. John, B.C.) / Holly Thompson, New Zealand lost 11-1 to Yako Matsuzawa, Japan / Philipp Hoesli, Switzerland
