The world stopped Thursday as the news of music legend Prince's death took over the internet. People shared their respects in a variety of ways, and the sports world was no exception.

Olympic figure skating gold medallist Jamie Sale loved skating to his music with partner David Pelletier, but let's get real, who didn't love getting down to Prince?

Apparently basketball's loss was music's gain. Washington Post reporter Chris Cillizza shared an epic throwback of Prince's baller days.

Canadian sprinter Aaron Brown and hockey player Hayley Wickenheiser kept it simple while expressing how the masses felt about the fallen icon.

CBC's Olympic daytime host David Amber reflected on growing up with the Purple Rain singer.

Meanwhile, Minneapolis (Prince's birthplace) paid tribute in likely the most fitting way possible. Who doesn't like a little rain?
