Toronto Wolfpack works over Workington Town in Super 8s playoffs
Rugby squad earns blowout win to record 1st playoff victory
The Toronto Wolfpack responded from a surprising loss last week to deliver a 68-0 win over Workington Town in the second match of the Super 8s playoffs on Sunday.
Toronto carried a 24-0 lead into halftime, with two tries from Blake Wallace and one apiece for Jonny Pownall and Quentin Laulu Togaga'e.
Wallace added two more tries in the second half, while Liam Kay, James Laithwaite, Craig Hall, Jake Emmitt, and Pownall, with his second, continued the onslaught for the Wolfpack.
Hall finished with two tries and 10 goals.
Toronto dropped its playoff opener 26-16 to the fourth-place York City Knights in North Yorkshire, England. Toronto trailied 18-0 at halftime in that match and was not able to recover despite a furious rally in the second half that brought the score to 18-14.
The Wolfpack entered the playoffs having gone 15-0 during the Kingstone Press League 1 regular season to finish at the top of the standings. Workington went 7-7-1 and finished eighth.
The club that leads after the Super 8s stage is automatically promoted to the second-tier Championship. The No. 2 team will then face No. 5 while No. 3 meets No. 4 with the winners meeting in a playoff to decide who gets promoted.
