France loses midfielder Diarra for World Cup

France midfielder Lassana Diarra has been ruled out of the World Cup because of a stomach ailment.

The Real Madrid midfielder missed all of Saturday's training session in the French Alpine resort of Tignes. He did not train on Thursday or Friday, either.

"Medical tests have revealed an unforeseeable illness which justifies a rest period," said France team press officer François Manardo.

France coach Raymond Domenech has not yet called up a replacement for Diarra, a regular in the qualifying matches.
