A rising Canadian soccer star will reportedly set a record for a women's transfer fee of one million Pound Sterling, or $1.85 million Canadian dollars.

The Guardian news agency in the U.K. reports that 20-year-old Olivia Smith, a member of Canada's national women's team, will move from Liverpool to Arsenal of the Super Women's League for the record sum. Arsenal was runner-up in the league championship, behind Chelsea.

CBC Sports has not independently confirmed the report.

The fee surpasses the previous high of $1.67 million Chelsea paid for American Naomi Girma in January.

Smith, a forward from Whitby, Ont., joined Liverpool a year ago from Sporting Lisbon of the Portuguese league, scoring seven goals in 20 games.

In 2019, the Toronto-born Smith became the youngest player to play for Canada's women's senior team when she made her debut at age 15 years, 94 days.
