The film, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly and Riz Ahmed, is a dark comedy about sibling assassins — Eli and Charlie Sisters — hired to kill a prospector who has stolen from their boss.
The bestselling western noir fable by the Vancouver Island-born author won the 2011 Governor General's Literary Award for fiction and the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize. It was also a finalist for the 2011 Scotiabank Giller Prize and the 2011 Man Booker Prize.
The film is slated for a fall 2018 release.
