Homemade quartz-inspired soaps for a glamorous, glorious soak

Make a glorious soak just a little more glamorous with these gorgeous quartz crystal-inspired soaps. You'll be happy to hear that any crafty beginner will knock this DIY out of the park – it's so easy. These beauties make awesome gifts for friends, and something special for yourself after a... well… not so hard day of crafting!

Here's what you'll need:

• Clear melt and pour soap base, unscented (I used about 2/3 of a 2 lb block)
• 10 g (2 tsp) pearl pink mica powder
• 10 g (2 tsp) microfine glitter mica
• 20 drops of essential oils for scent (I love lavender, bergamot and rosewood together – about 7 drops of each)
• Alcohol spray, or you can add isopropyl alcohol to a spray bottle
• Sharp, smooth knife (like a chef's knife)
• 2-cup measuring cup
• Spoon for mixing
• Plastic container for a mould (I used a cube-shaped plastic lunch container that was 4 inches deep; this will give you enough length for the crystals once cut)

Here's how to do it:

1. Begin by cutting your soap into 1-inch cubes. Place 1/2 cup of cubed soap into your measuring cup and melt in the microwave for about 20-30 seconds.

2. Add 1/2 tsp of pearl pink mica and stir into melted soap.

3. Now pour the mixture into your plastic mould. Tilt and twirl your mould slowly and often until the soap begins to harden on all sides and becomes bumpy and marbled.

4. Lightly spray the solidifying mixture with alcohol to help it set.

5. Now for the second layer. Melt 2 cups of cubed soap in microwave for about 1 minute, then stir. Repeat for 1 more minute until all of soap is melted. Add 1 tsp of fine glitter mica into melted soap and stir. Pour into mould and lightly spray with alcohol. For best results don't let the first layer of soap cool completely. It will stick together best if your first layer is still a bit warm, so its best to work fast.

6. Place soap in the freezer to set for about 30 minutes. Once completely cool and solid, remove soap from the mould. We can create 16 pieces of soap from our block. Begin by cutting your block into 4 equal pieces (pink on the bottom).

7. Now take one of the 4 soap pieces and cut lengthwise (with pink on bottom) into 4 more pieces. Repeat until you have 16 pieces.

8. Now let's shape these rectangles into quartz-shaped pieces! The soap will actually cut like butter, so take your knife and begin shaving the clear end of the soap into a pointed geometric shape. Now shave off each lengthwise corner of your soap. It will look more organic if your cuts aren't perfect.

9. Run yourself a bath, pour a glass of wine and enjoy these awesome soaps you just made.
