Top beauty trends from Paris Fashion Week for Fall 2017
Artful eyes, pops of colour and a sleek, textured look are coming your way!
Artful eyes
After seasons of gothic lips, red lips, blue and green lips, makeup artists have shifted focus to the eyes. In Paris this past week lids were adorned with bright pops of colour at Fenty x Puma (Rihanna's bad gals came complete with spiky lashes and orange triangles below the lower lash line), Vivienne Westwood (a swath of cerulean blue surrounded the eye), and Chanel (Lagerfeld's ladies were part Barbarella, part space queen!). At Maison Margiela, Pat McGrath used orange feathers as lashes on a few models, while also working with painterly strokes of green, yellow, and orange on others. For Valentino, McGrath created an under eye cat flick in burgundy, paired with matching lipstick. Over at Elie Saab, the look was inspired by the ballet Gisele, where lead artist Tom Pecheux created a sparkle-infused, smoked-out eye, with the sparkle landing at the outside corners. And at Yves Saint Laurent, a misplaced, thick cat eye flick, which began near the lid crease and continued underneath the brow bone, was a modern, grunge-ish take on the Hollywood favourite.
Peachy keen
Bare faces continued their reign, but in Paris they were dressed up with a peachy bronze take on the smokey eye at Hermès, Acne and Stella McCartney, with artists bringing the shadow to below the lash line for a slept-in feel. With dewy skin and no mascara, this look will pair perfectly with boho, beachy vibes this summer or will become a stand out next to a grunge ensemble.
Going from a muted, dusty rose at Isabel Marant and Nina Ricci (at both, models appeared to barely be wearing lipstick save for a blotted, pinky hue), to a more noticeable lipstick look at Chanel and Jacquemus, the trend also veered to the other end of the spectrum, where at Paskal and H&M, the makeup teams played with bright pinks and fuchsias to go along with dewy, sporty skin.
Glossy but textured hair
Gone are the days of the messy, model-off-duty beach waves. Enter a sleeker, textured look, as seen at Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior (where stylist Guido Palau used rag rolls for waves), Isabel Marant and Nina Ricci (hairstylist James Pecis told Allure.com that he created an s-curve with a curling iron, then scrunched in mousse for texture), as well as Clare Waight Keller's last offering at Chloé.
Over and under
Braids went from sporty—at Fenty x Puma and Balmain (where Sam Mcknight opted for three or four cornrows on the crown, then pulled hair back into a tight, low ponytail, using a root touch up powder along the braid lines to create the illusion of thicker hair)— to witchy at Alexander McQueen (two wispy braids met below each model's chin) and Valentino.
Micro trends: a wet look middle part, leather headbands
Fast fashion retailer H&M really nailed their look this season, incorporating a few trends in one, including a sleek wet look that was parted down the middle (also spotted at Loewe), that featured a leather headband (just like the look at Chanel).
