Here's something simple yet really special you can make for all your friends, whether it's for the holidays or just because. It's a scrap-busting tutorial from Sewing Therapy's Sara SJ Kim that's perfect for the bookworms in your life.

In this episode of her CBC Life series, Sewing School, Sara demonstrates how to create a cute and compact bookmark using pieces of leftover fabric. It's a delightful way to transform the remnants of your old projects into something functional and one-of-a-kind. Have fun tailoring the colours and patterns to whoever you're making them for — especially if that person is you!

Watch the video for Sara's full step-by-step guide, then scroll down for the list of materials needed for this project.

Here's what you'll need:

  • A sewing machine
  • String, in colours of your choice
  • Scraps of leftover fabric, in three different colours/patterns
  • Fabric shears
  • Fusible interfacing (optional)
  • Ruler
  • Fabric marker
  • Pins
  • Point turner
