Step inside Story Book Farm, the Ontario primate sanctuary that Ikea Monkey now calls home
Rescued from labs and roadside zoos, they’re now free to, well, monkey around in Daina Liepa’s care.
While lots of us would love to have a monkey to, well, monkey around with, Daina Liepa, co-owner of Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary, assures us that these captivating creatures "do not make good pets." In fact, in addition to roadside zoos and research laboratories, many of the primates rescued by this Ontario shelter come from human families who were not equipped to care for them. Now home to 19 monkeys in total, including famous faces like painting whiz Pockets Warhol and Darwin the Ikea Monkey, Story Book provides these animals with an environment where they can learn, heal and make friends of their own. Check out the video above to peek inside the sanctuary and learn more about the many mischievous monkeys that swing from Story Book's trees.
