Violence worsening in Mexico

According to unconfirmed reports, the shots were aimed at a man walking in front of the hotel at the time. He was also wounded in the leg.

Acapulco Mayor Felix Saldago admitted the violence has not put the resort city in a good light with tourists.

"In 2006, the violence got worse. It's been very ugly. Really horrible," he said, but assured tourists are safe and blamed the violence in the city on isolated gang wars between drug cartels.

Saturday's shooting comes only weeks after 19-year-old Adam DePrisco from Woodbridge, Ont., was killed in Acapulco. A Mexican doctor blamed the teenager's death on a hit-and-run, but his family and friends allege he was beaten to death.

Last month, a man from Chatham, Ont., was struck by a car and killed in Guadalajara.

Domenic and Nancy Ianiero, also of Woodbridge, were found slain in their room at a resort in the Mayan Riviera nearly a year ago. Their deaths remain unsolved.
