Body found outside Bridgewater, N.S.

A passerby discovered human remains along a street near the southwestern Nova Scotia town of Bridgewater on Saturday.

Human remains were discovered outside the small Nova Scotia town of Bridgewater on Saturday, police said.

A passerby spotted the unidentified body along the banks of LaHave River  off Highway 331, police said but did not immediately release further details.

Police said the body was covered in snow when they arrived at the scene after a 911 call in the late morning.

They would not speculate on whether it might be a 12-year-old girl who went missing nearly two weeks ago from a parking lot across the river and upstream from where the remains were found.

Karissa Boudreau disappeared on Jan. 27 from outside a Sobeys grocery store following an argument with her mother.

Underwater searches of the nearby LaHave River and aerial searches have not turned up any signs of the Grade 6 student.

Forensic specialists were on site during the afternoon. An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday and police say no further details will likely be released until then.
