5 people sustained minor injuries, police say
Police say a 16-year-old girl is in custody after a string of assaults in a Vancouver Island town on Wednesday morning.
Comox Valley RCMP say they received calls about a person assaulting people with a knife near the library in downtown Courtenay at 9 a.m. PT Wednesday.
Const. Monika Terragni told CBC News that five people were injured, but the injuries were considered minor.
The girl was "apprehended within minutes" and arrested, according to Terragni, who says she will remain in police custody until her court appearance. Police could not confirm when that is scheduled.
Investigators say there is no ongoing risk to the public.
They are asking anyone with video footage or information about the incident to contact the Comox Valley RCMP.
