"45 Years of Fooling Around with A. Banana" now on display in Victoria
“Everyone can relate to the banana,” says 75-year-old artist Anna Banana from Victoria
A 75-year-old artist from Victoria put out a call for people to send her news clippings related to bananas, and turned the overwhelming response into an exhibit titled 45 Years of Fooling Around with A. Banana now on display a Victoria art gallery.
"Everyone can relate to the banana," said Anna Banana, the artist who legally changed her last name after her second divorce.
"Everyone knows what a banana is. It is a very common fruit. It also has its comedic side," she explained.
The interactive exhibit explores 'banana culture' through news and magazine clippings, toys, kitchen gadgets and a map with a collection of people's banana stories.
"The objects are interesting to me in terms of how much we are prepared to produce — toys or anything marketable. I am rather critical of our consumer society," she said.
The exhibit opens this Saturday at Victoria's Open Space Gallery.
