50-storey building planned for Surrey
3 Civic Plaza project would house a hotel, condos, and an office complex
A developer is planning a new 50-storey building next to the new City Hall and City Centre Library in Surrey, B.C.
The project would house a hotel, condo units and an office tower, all within walking distance of the Surrey Central SkyTrain station. The developer says a "grand lobby" would connect all three building components.
David Laulainen, spokesman for Century Group, says "3 Civic Plaza" would bring vibrancy to the area at all hours of the day.
"One of the key differences that the city wanted was the ability to have a civic plaza that was kind of open 24-7. And the Civic Hotel is the city's answer to how that would happen," Laulainen said.
The project is being planned for the site formerly occupied by the Whalley Library and Sunrise Pavilion, in the 10300 block of City Parkway.
The project will need the approval of Surrey city council on April 8 before construction can start.
Century Group hopes to break ground this summer and finish building the complex by early 2016.
