Northern B.C. artists celebrate Alaska Highway with CD
CD is timed for Christmas season and 75th anniversary of highway’s 1942 construction
If you drive the Alaska Highway, this story might be music to your ears.
The Peace Liard Regional Arts Council has just released a CD from local artists they say includes the best songs to listen to while driving the route from Dawson Creek, B.C., to Delta Junction, Alaska.
Donna Kane organized the CD, as well as a contest in 2015, to find the best song about the highway, which was won by Jody Peck's "Alaska Highway."

"We received so many submissions that we thought, the community needs to hear these songs," Kane told Radio West guest host Josh Page about the CD's origins.
"We just got such an amazing response to the songs we thought that it would be great to do a CD."
The CD is timed for the Christmas season as well as the 75th anniversary of the highway's construction, which takes place in 2017.
The CD features Jody Peck's contest winner as well as tracks from Chris Gale, who won "people's choice" in the contest for his song, "That's Where I Was Raised."
"It's just so amazing the number of musicians we have in this area and how hard they worked on this CD," Kane said. "It sounds fantastic.
The CD also includes poetry and Aboriginal drumming.
