Alleged rioter arrested at U.S-Canada border

An American man who tired to enter Canada through the Peace Arch crossing south of Vancouver has been arrested in connection with the June 2011 Stanley Cup riot.

An American man who tried to enter Canada through the Peace Arch border crossing south of Vancouver has been arrested in connection with the June 2011 Stanley Cup riot.

The Canada Border Services Agency said Dakota Schlag was referred for a secondary examination after information on a database indicated he was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant related to the riot.

The former University of B.C. student was detained and turned over to the RCMP on Monday, the CBSA revealed Wednesday.

Eight more people have been charged this week in connection with the riot, bringing the total accused in the melee to 145 people.

A handful of people have been sentenced for their role in the riot that erupted after the Vancouver Canucks lost game seven of the Stanley Cup final to the Boston Bruins.
