Beer-makers from across the country are saluting Old Yale Brewing Co., which was awarded the "Beer of the Year" title at the Canadian Brewing Awards in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Saturday night.

The award, presented during the third annual Canadian Craft Brewers Conference, recognizes the highest-scoring single entry beer in all 38 categories.

The brewery, located in Chilliwack in B.C.'s Fraser Valley, describes the oat-and-roasted-chocolate-malt brew as "black and robust with a lot of body, just like the mysterious animal itself!"

Sasquatch Stout won a Canadian Brewing Awards gold medal in 2005, and a silver award in 2009 from the North American Brewing Awards.

TAPS Media, publishers of Canada's only national beer magazine and owner and operators of the Canadian Craft Brewers Conference and the Canadian Brewing Awards, says there were 916 beers from over 130 Canadian breweries entered in this year's competition.

Last year, the Beer of the Year award also went to a B.C. brew: Powell Street Craft Brewery's Old Jalopy Pale Ale.
